Will Goldfish Survive In a Bowl? What Everyone Gets Wrong

Last Updated on August 31, 2022 by cmoarz

This topic is pretty dear to my heart because I care about fish. I love fish and my main goal when taking care of them and writing to help others take care of them is to be sure the fish is getting the best care possible. There are a lot of things people do wrong when it comes to taking care of goldfish and I’m here to help set the record straight.

Can goldfish live in a bowl? Some goldfish live happily in at least 10 gallons, But these are small goldfish that do not get very big. The vast majority of goldfish absolutely can’t be put in a bowl or anything smaller than a 20-gallon tank.

Will they live? Yes, for a while. But without proper filtration and an adequate volume of water to dilute water toxins from waste, their lives will be short and miserable.

If you’re thinking about getting a goldfish, please do yourself and the fish a favor and get a tank that is at least 20 gallons.

Your goldfish will thank you for it! It will live longer, grow larger, and thrive more than you could have ever imagined. Please do right by your goldfish and give them a propper home.

Interesting fact: Many countries and principalities have banned or are in the process of banning goldfish bowls specifically because of the cruelty involved. Profiteers continue to sell these cramped aquariums to unknowing people and it needs to stop.

If you are interested in taking up the cause, please find your local animal rights group and get involved. Fish need a voice too.
